How does a group become a Birmingham Prayer Furnace host site? Participation is open to all Christ-centered, Bible based fellowships and organizations.
Campuses, businesses, homes, churches, and other groups can participate as Prayer Furnace sites by contacting our support team. We want to build a prayer friendly environment that guides people into God's presence, covers the city, and fills the calendar. Patience and wisdom is needed in site selection and host leadership training so that we are building together with common Biblical vision and values.
We will ask questions concerning:
- Physical safety and security for participants as they travel to and from your site, as well as once they are there, particularly during the Night Watch from Midnight to 6 am.
- Willingness to participate whole heartedly in a Christ-centered, cross-denominational movement with an attitude to build up the Body of Christ in Birmingham beyond simply meeting the needs of their host community.
- A concern not only for the eternal souls of men and women, but for God's justice and righteousness to flow through the streets of Birmingham, her institutions, and her land.
- A commitment to multiethnic community under the leadership of the Jesus. Birmingham has a particular history of racial tension and injustice. Yet the tide of racial hatred turned toward racial healing in this city in 1963. There is much more work to be done today. The leaders of the Birmingham Prayer Furnace believe our city carries a powerful potential to release a gift of justice and racial healing to the nations.
- Openness to receive training in effective ways to make unbroken prayer pleasurable and engaging for as many people as possible, particularly encouraging the worship styles of the youth culture today.
